Best of the
Great Apes
The endangered mountain
gorillas and chimpanzees of Uganda were a true highlight.
Ngamba
Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Ngamba Island is
a sanctuary for chimps saved from poachers. From the viewing platform,
I could get some
great close-ups of the chimps.
Kibale
National Park
Kibale has
one of the highest densities of primates in the world and is home to
families of habituated chimpanzees that we found gorging themselves
in a couple of fig trees.
Bwindi
Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi is
home to half of the remaining 600 mountain gorillas and it
definitely earned its "Impenetrable" title. The first day
was spent with the Mubare group and day 2 was spent with Habinyanja
A in
the
rain.
