VUMBURA PLAINS CAMP: OKAVANGO DELTA Vumbura must be on the edge of the delta as it was much drier than Jao and offered huge diversity in game. Here we saw amazing herds of buffalo, packs of hyena, some sleepy male lions and solitary cheetah. Cape Buffalo This herd of buffalo numbered more than 500 and were at the water just in front of camp. Everyone was excited because with a herd this large, there was likely to be lions nearby. Spotted Hyena These hyenas were found first thing in the morning and clearly had just returned from a kill. Several of them were soaked in blood. Impala, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra and Kudu Antelopes were everywhere! Baboons Troops of chapman baboons were playing, chasing and barking at just about every tree. Elephants Initially, we couldn't see that there was a very young baby elephant amongst all of the giants. They were all taking great care to keep the baby hidden from view and protected from all directions. Birds of Vumbura As always, there were plenty of great bird sightings. The highlights were the pair of giant eagle owls and the waddled cranes taking flight. Other Highlights |
